Introducing Myself (My First Blog Post!!!)

Well, I’ve done it. I’ve started a blog. I have to say I was nervous as all get-out, but now the butterflies in my stomach have subsided and the anxiety has changed to excitement. I feel like I’m on top of the world right now!!!

Anyway (as you can probably tell by the name of the blog), my name is Leslie Downhart. I am a writer. I have written stories since I was a child, so I’ve been writing on and off for the past 25 years.

STORY TIME: When I was in first grade, I wrote this story about a princess in a castle, and my mom kept the book my teacher made for my story. Amazingly enough that thing survived the ravages of time, and is still in very good condition. I read it when my mom presented it to me. Of course, the plot made no sense whatsoever, but the memory it represents is very precious to me.

Before I tell you why I wanted to start a blog, let me tell you a little about myself. Writing is my greatest passion (OBVIOUSLY), I hope to be a published author one day. I’m addicted to tea (iced tea, hot tea, flavored tea, etc.). I’m a book collector, even if I haven’t read the book it sits on my shelf until I have time to read it (one day I will take a picture of my book shelf and show you guys). I love music, any type. Lastly, when I am home alone I have to put something on TV in the background because the silence gets to me.

I started this blog for a couple of reasons. As I stated before, I want to become a published author one day. The idea of this blog is for me and you to practice and hone our creative writing skills. I am in the middle of writing a book, and I will say that it is a lot of hard work. You have to be creative to build your world, create your characters and mastermind a magic system. To start off, we will take prompts from books and the internet, and write little stories that best fit with the prompt. Another reason why I wanted to start this blog was to hopefully inspire an aspiring writer to begin their journey. When I was younger, I didn’t think my writing was very good, and I took constructive criticism as an insult. Now that I’m older and wiser, I find I need that more that ever. Hopefully, this blog will inspire someone who doesn’t have faith in their writing into taking that step to becoming a writer. It is most definitely a leap of faith, but I promise you it is a step worth taking.

I plan to post about 3 times a week to begin with (I would like to post every day, but we shall see what real life brings). Mondays and Wednesdays we will practice our creative writing, and then on Friday I shall share some words of wisdom, either from a book on writing, or from a famous author… depending on what speaks to me at the moment.
